Canaan guarantees a fair price to farmers and producers even when markets are low. A fair price or 'living wage' allows producers to cover the cost of harvest and tree maintenance while providing food, shelter, education, and medical care for their families. Canaan also requires that farm workers are paid one-third of the crop in good seasons and one-half of the crop in bad seasons.
Canaan reinvests parts of its profits back in the local olive oil industry and into the producing communities in the form of material support for farmers' cooperatives, and education on fair trade practices. 10% of the profits is returned directly to the producing cooperatives and is spent at their discretion. Another 10% of the profits supports the Palestine Fair Trade Association which is the Palestinian national union of fair trade producing cooperatives. Canaan uses recycled materials in our bottling and packaging process and obtains all locally available materials from Palestinian communities.
Welcome to our fair trade community!
